Expressing Gratitude to CNAs: What They Do and How to Give Back

Expressing Gratitude to CNAs: What They Do and How to Give Back

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) have a very important role in healthcare and senior living communities. With CNA Week 2023 upon us, now is the perfect time to recognize the outstanding work of these individuals as well as the contributions they have made to our healthcare system. CNAs go above and beyond for our seniors, and we want to honor them for all they do.

What is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide medical care for patients in a variety of settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, and home health care services. While doctors and registered nurses (RNs) tackle the higher-level and more critical elements of patient care, such as diagnosing and treating patients, CNAs are often the primary caregivers for patients who need basic assistance in meeting their daily care needs. Some of their daily responsibilities include providing physical and emotional support to elderly and disabled patients, monitoring vital signs, dispensing medications, and helping with basic activities of daily living. They are the backbone in providing quality healthcare, and their hard work certainly does not go unrecognized.

What is CNA Week?

CNA Week was established by the National Association of Health Care Assistants (NAHCA) in 1977, and it was created to raise awareness and honor the incredible work of CNAs across the nation. This year’s theme, “We’re Unstoppable,” represents the hard work and dedication of these amazing individuals.

“As we celebrate CNA Week, I want to recognize our certified nursing assistants’ commitment to serving our most vulnerable population. The tremendous contributions that each of you makes in caring for patients at the bedside and your tireless efforts to improve the lives of others do not go unnoticed. The impact of CNAs on the healthcare industry is immeasurable. Thank YOU for all that you do!”

—Brittany Williamson, RN, ShiftMed Director of Nursing

How Can You Give Back?

There are many ways to get involved with CNA Week, and the National Association of Health Care Assistants (NAHCA) has even created materials that you can display on social media to show appreciation for the CNAs at your facility. Visit their webpage for more information.
