Leisure Care Implements Next-Generation Visitor Management Technology
Clint Fowler
Resident Services Director - Leisure Care
THE CHALLENGE
To ensure the privacy and confidentiality of residents and families while providing the most advanced emergency systems in the industry.
THE OUTCOME
With 52 communities across the United States, Leisure Care integrated Accushield’s sign-in system at the entry points in almost half of their buildings.
THE IMPACT
Accushield’s kiosks enhanced safety and security protocols for residents, as well as was an effective tool for complying with HIPAA requirements for all staff and visitors.
In February 2017, Clint Fowler wanted to ramp up privacy, security, and safety for the staff and residents of Leisure Care’s 52 communities. As Director of Resident Services for the Seattle-based company, Fowler wanted to create a company-wide process for ensuring the confidentiality and security of everyone who lived and worked in the buildings.
“We wanted something that would put some distance between the front desk and guests, to offer added security that was HIPAA compliant,” says Fowler, adding that Leisure Care had considered creating its own platform, but that Accushield was “already far ahead of game with their own system.”
Mission Accomplished
Leisure Care installed Accushield kiosks in several of its buildings, thus boosting the privacy and confidentiality of its residents, while allowing administrators and managers to see, via remote access, what was happening in the buildings.
In addition, having the Accushield kiosks front and center in Leisure Care buildings helps to illustrate the company’s commitment to the safety and security of residents and staff, Fowler notes. “It’s been a positive thing and was well received by family members.”
Bonus Benefits
Fowler notes that another advantage of Accushield is its assistance with disaster preparedness plans. “We can create an on-premises list for first responders in the event of an evacuation,” he says, “and related to that, having the most up-to-date contact information for everyone in the platform is a huge benefit.”
Leisure Care is also utilizing Accushield’s Love Meter function, a data point pulled from the community visitor history that produces a report of the least visited residents in each building. This metric gives staff the opportunity to take action with residents who may be at risk of feeling abandoned, isolated, or depressed. “This is a cool part of the platform,” Fowler says. “We know which residents to keep an eye on, especially during the holidays.”
A pleasant surprise for Fowler is Accushield’s dashboard and access to training materials. He says he appreciates how much information the company has to offer with regard to staff onboarding. “Their customer service has been impeccable.”
